How can a country with such fab cuisine be so goddamned shit outta luck?

If it isn't a ruthless dictator, it's one of your provinces seceding, or if it isn't one of the most devastating earthquakes in the planet's history (causing one of the most devastating tsunamis of the planet's history), then it's other "milder" earthquakes "only killing" tens of thousands.
